10/9/10 ~ Century ~ MS150
<update>
12:55pm Sunday
Day 2
62.9 miles in 3:52:09. Uneventful ride really. Felt good for nearly all of it and had fun picking off roadies the last 5-6 miles. I'm sure getting dropped by a 40+ year old dude on a mountain bike sucks. For me, I use roadies as rabbits. Chase'em down look for a new one to set sights on.
Finish Line was cool, literally. You ride into The Alamo Dome w/ air conditioned air blowing into your face. Several people were there to cheer which made the day and the event feel good for me. I bolted not checking out any of the Day 2 post ride stuff.
Why? Off to work I go. . .

Day 1
Cranked out Century mileage in 6:01:16. The time was good enough to beat my estimate; so I'm very pleased with my effort. I pretty much stuck to the plan on stops. I couldn't turn into the finish area while being guided to do so. I looked at cycling computer; it showed 99.5 miles so I blew on through hitting a couple side streets then entered the finish area. At finish line - exactly 100.0 presented.
I felt good all day. Doing steady pace work most of the day and being very careful not to fall victim to the urge to hammer. I saved the hammering for the last 13-15 miles. . .
<update>
I'm in line at The Alamo Dome about to push off on the longest bicycle ride I've ever set my sights on completing. Today, I'll be riding to draw awareness to those battling Multiple Sclerosis and for reaching a personal goal of mashin out 100 miles while affixed to my faithful '98 Gary Fisher Wahoo dressed for the road bike.
I've got my hydration and calorie/fuel needs all dialed in and onboard.
I'll blow through rest areas 1, 2 and 3; making my first stop at 4 where my employer (Rackspace Hosting) has set up shop to bring assistance to all riders electing to grab a short break, fluids and a snack or two. At this point of the ride I'll be at the 33-34 mile point of the 100 mile course. Another stop or two will be necessary to fill water bottles - likely at the 65 and 85 mile markers of the course. Of course the 'unexpected' and reality of 'have to stop' possibilities are also on my mind.
My calculations regarding time in the saddle rests at 6 hours 20 - 50 minutes.
Century... It's been on the radar for a few months now. I'm sure I'll be challenged to meet the 100 mile level of endurance on a bicycle!
Previous best on single day mileage - 73.4 which ironically was completed during the 2009 MS150 Ride to the River event.
Weather forecast: Patchy fog before 10am. Otherwise, partly sunny, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 85. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph.
